Eliot Engel: US not allow one-ethnic court to investigate Serbia's crimes

The chairman of the Outgoing Foreign Affairs Committee at the US Congress, Eliot Engel, in his speech held at the hearing for the Western Balkans and the guidelines of the new US administration, has said that Kosovo is independent states. Kosovo is an independent country for over a decade. Kosovo has joined the World Bank and the IMF, and is recognised by many countries. It is Serbia that has to move, Kosovo is independent that doesn't undo”, Engel has indicated.
“Call on Serbia to join other countries in the EU. In 1999 we stopped genocide in Europe, and this is an act to be proud of. In 1999, people were killed. There are still Albanian troops in Serbia among them three Albanian-American brothers. The international community has urged Kosovo to set up the Special Court, rather than Serbia, which has committed crimes with Slobodan Milosevic at the helm”, Engel said.
Engel has indicated that the Special Court should also investigate Serbia's crimes committed in Kosovo.
Anyone guilty of crimes should be prosecuted and brought to justice. But what is justice in the Kosovo war case? Serbia is responsible for most of the crimes committed in Kosovo. Kosovo has been urged to establish a hybrid court. Even if Kosovo has committed crimes, it should be held accountable, but the US and our allies should not allow this to be an ethnic court. It does not matter who committed the crimes, but they must all be investigated. Serbia cannot sit in two chairs at the same time”, he said.
