Abazovic in Montenegro's Parliament: We want new relations with Serbia, we don't want contentious politics

Dritan Abazovic, appointed deputy prime minister in Montenegro's Government, said the new executive wants good neighbourly relations and especially does not want conflicts with Serbia. “We want new relations with Serbia, we don't want contentious politics. If someone wants to implement that policy, they will be able to do it [...]
“We want new relations with Serbia, we don't want contentious politics. If someone wants to implement that policy, they will have the opportunity to do so by tomorrow, when this government” is voted, Abazovic said, speaking in an elevated tone in the Assembly.
Addressing opposition DPS deputies, Abazovic said that this party is unable, as he said, to withdraw the new government to “the decade of nationalism”.
He explained that the diplomacy of the new government will not be political because, he said, Montenegro is a small country, Whose GDP depends mostly on tourism, and that is why their relations with neighbours are very important, according to him.
“This is a government of compromise, citizens do not need politicians, but prosperity, and when we have it, we will all be satisfied”, Abazovovic said.
Responding to opposition criticism of the composition of the new government, and specifically that there are no minority representatives in it, Abazovic said that is not true because he is representative of that minority.
Are you talking about a mono-ethnic government? How could you not be ashamed?”, Abazovic said.
This faced the opposition deputies' dissatisfaction, so Parliament Speaker Abazovic warned him to choose his words.
You set a target for people. You from DPS and criminal clans are drawing a target for me”, Abazovic continued in the same tone.
He said that he was not interested in 1918 but in 2024.
This is a joint state. You want a private state, you can't. We don't need Lovcen but budget guard. People who will guard the state vaults...”
The new government's “wish is for citizens of all nationalities to live together in a joint state of Montenegro”, he added.
“This is the first democratic government in Montenegro's history”, Abazovic said, adding that it is at the same time the first government that, according to him, represents the will of citizens.
Addressing opposition deputies from DPS on several occasions, Abazovic said they could not tell him about minorities and added that they were representatives of those who expelled minority representatives from Montenegro during the recent war. When you came to power in the 1990s, war broke out all over the region. Your government, the president who sat here seven times, was prime minister. It was an integral part of the policy of deportations, war crimes and various activities that have nothing to do with these people here because they have never been in power”, Abazovic said.
