The Kosovo Banks Association has reacted after today's bancomat robbery on the “B” road in Pristina.
Through a media communique, this association has said the security situation in this sector is alarming.
In response further, criminal groups are not being reluctant to use explosives and firearms to achieve their goals.
“Sulmi has been carried out on “B” where, in addition to the damage caused to the bank and surrounding businesses, there have been also heard gunshots against security officials and in the direction of the surrounding facilities, the residents of the area. Last month, a similar attack has been carried out against another commercial bank in Ferizaj with similar amounts of damage, as well as high risk rates”, said in response.
This association has also called on the government to act quickly and decisively towards these groups, which they think have frequently frequented the attacks.
Full response:
The Kosovo Banks Association estimates that the security situation in the country for businesses, and in particular for the banking sector, is alarming and steadily deteriorating. Today one of Pristina's commercial banks has been attacked through the use of firearms and explosives. The banking sector condemns this wicked act carried out by criminal groups, which do not hesitate to use explosives and firearms to achieve their goals, even in the capital's most frequent neighbourhoods and streets. This security situation is unacceptable to both the banking sector and the business community and our society.
The attack was carried out on the “B” street, where, in addition to the damage caused to the bank and the surrounding businesses, there were also heard gunshots fired against security officials and in the direction of nearby objects, jeopardising local residents. Last month a similar attack has been carried out against another commercial bank in Ferizaj with similar amounts of damage as well as high risk rates.
We call on the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and security institutions to act swiftly and decisively against these groups, which have been frequenting the attacks and increasing the intensity of the damage and risk rate for life and property. Our society should not tolerate losing security in the country and terrorising businesses and citizens from criminal gangs throughout Kosovo.
