Biden will be sworn in as the oldest president in the nation's history, moving Ronald Reagan, who left the White House in 1989 when he was 77 and 349 days old.
The age and health of Beden and President Donald Trump four years younger than Biden é appeared during a race that was decided by a younger and more diverse electorate and at a moment when the nation is not facing the lack of consequences.
Ross Baker, a political scientist at Rutgers University who has advised lawmakers, both sides said that Biden should build credibility with the American people that he is physically and mentally capable of the job.
Throughout the campaign, Trump, 74, missed no chance to expose Beden's mistakes and argue that the Democrats lacked mental insight to lead the nation.
Both critics and some of Beden's supporters were concerned that he was sending the wrong message about his endurance by holding a relatively easy public plan while Trump declared the battles on the ground. Beden attributed the easy agenda to being cautious during the coronary pandemic.
Some of Biden's rivals in the preliminary Democratic elections also raised a question on age ʹ raising questions about whether one from the generation of Biden and Trump was the right person to lead a nation dealing with issues such as climate change and race inequality
Brian Ottt, a communications professor at Missouri State University who studies presidential rhetoric, said Biden was not impressive as an activist, but has proved much more effective with his public remarks since Election Day.
Ott said Beden's speech about victory was touching and his sensitivity was shown in a virtual discussion he held earlier this week with health care workers on the front line. The experience of the elected president a combination of ages and nearly 50 years in politics conveys more clarity through prism of governance than campaign chaos, he said.
“Government rhetoric, unlike campaign rhetoric, is more co-operative than opposed,” said.
Biden's relatively advanced age also provides a higher premium to the quality of his staff, Baker said as his choice of Senator Kamala Harris, nearly 20 years younger than he was.
