Anger in Greece after the priest raises a child to kiss the coffin of a bishop who died from COVID-19

The burial images in the town of Lagadas outside Thessaloniki were widely distributed to social media and local news sites, prompting strong reactions at a time when coronary infections are increasing and Greece has implemented a strict national impasse, reports “Daily Mall”.

In the video, the priest can be seen standing next to a boy on the bishop's coffin before raising his child to put a kiss in the coffin, broadcasting news.

Both the boy and the priest have masks on their faces, but the priest later takes them off to kiss the coffin himself. The boy kept the mask on all the time.

Cape Talling Grace reported that the coffin was actually open, so the boy and the priest kissed the bishop's corpse, but this cannot be seen clearly in the video, which shows objects that seem to stand on the cover of the coffin.

The service was held on Monday for the 62-year-old clergyman, who died Sunday morning of Coronavrius.

During the pandemic, the bishop had been an open lawyer for maintaining the Eucharist ceremonies in which worshipers were given bread and wine from a common spoon.

He argued there was no danger of transmission of the virus this way.

The bishop's coffin was sent to the burial with great care from six men in full - body personal protective equipment.

According to Cape Talling Greece, several other bishops in Thessaloniki have been infected after attending events to mark the Day of St. Dhimitre of Thessaloniki on 26 October.

Greeks in social media have demanded that restrictions and fines for their violations also apply to priests, and the government has promised to take measures.
