For a year in Kosovo, about 200 tons of milk are produced, when 140 of them are being collected, while some are at risk of being paid 50 percent of the price. The remaining amount of milk in stock is taking place because of imported palm oil products, which are considered illegal because it damages consumer health.
So said today at the Commission for Agriculture, Forestry, Rural Development, Infrastructure and Environment, where problems are presented with the collection of milk on the part of Kosovo farmers.
The chairman of the Co-ordination Council of Milk Farmers, Ramadan Memaj, stressed that the biggest problems are with collecting milk. The latter has also raised concern with importing palm oil products, which he said are becoming a flagrant violation of the law.
In Kosovo we currently have more than 70 thousand liters of milk, which we are unable to collect from milk processing. And on the other hand, we have in almost all of the stock milk processing factories, which have been created in the last few months. But, of course, this is not the only issue in this sector. Now, in the time of the end, especially in the last month, we have the climate of closing farms in the impossible to survive because of the difficulties they are facing. On the other hand, we have reduced milk collection and milk collection prices. This is another very disturbing problem in the fact that information comes to us from the ground that, in certain cases, about 50 percent has reduced the cost of collection”, Memaj said.
Memaj has also raised concerns about importing palm oil products, which come through the veterinarian certificate, which AVUK has allowed their import without knowing what content they have, what they delivered criminal gossip to the State Prosecutor.
“The products of so-called milk derived from import, but even from local products are the main products which are causing the milk sector problem, are those with palm oil. Products that are not regulated, or are illegal products, products that are illegal and products that are also damaging the health of Kosovo consumers... Thus, it is a flagrant violation of the high - level law. Where the import of palm oil products, with at least 10 million pounds per year, has been allowed for many years. We have an extraordinary amount of products coming through Kosovo customs, and sold on the market network on the side of Kosovo. So on one side we have importation of palm oil products, milk products, and now we're talking about products that are sold for milk products, which come mainly from countries in the region like Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, other Albania and more remote countries like Bulgaria, Hungary. So there's a number of countries over 50 products that we've recorded as palm oil products”, Memaj said.
Commission for Agriculture Chairman Lieburn Aliu has asked the chairman of the Co-ordination Council of Milk Farmers, Ramadan Memaj, about the amount of milk produced within the year in Kosovo.
How much milk is produced in our country, if 70 thousand don't gather, how much? Did the pandemic affect this situation? Are sheets of palm oil and milk filled with milk? What would be the effect if we had the limit of palm oil in general?”, Ali said.
Memaj has noted that during the winter time, the amount of milk production decreases, but a significant portion is being threatened to pay 50 percent of the price.
“In Kosovo, 200 tonnes of milk are produced, but during wintertime that amount falls to 160 or 170 tonnes. At the moment, about 70 tons are not being collected, which is that around 140 tons have accumulated, the problem that I said at the beginning is that even this accumulated milk is risking that a large amount of it be paid by 50 percent of the price”, he said.
Memaj said there is a criminal network that brings and smuggles goods to harm citizens. He demanded the permanent suspension of the importation of palm oil, since according to him there are some 20-30 thousand families that are being endangered.
We're very concerned about the security aspect. What we ask of you as a parliamentary commission and as a Kosovo Assembly, by banning these products, which are destroying everything. Starting with farms, collection points, collection factories and, above all, destroying the health of Kosovo citizens”, Memaj has said.
Salih Zyba of the Vetevendosje Movement has considered disturbing the fact that many farmers are risking bankruptcy and said palm oil products dare not be found in Kosovo markets. /kp
