Al-Shabab militants attack US naval base

Witnesses have reported hearing gunshots and have seen shots of black smoke leaving Camp Simba on Manda Island Airfield.

The Kenyan Army said the troops have managed to keep the rebels from the base, writes BBC, translates P ERISCOPY.

Al-Shabab has ties to al-Qaeda and is based in neighbouring Somalia.

This group has made more attacks on the region since its formation a decade earlier. On December 28, they killed 80 people after the bombing in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu.
