The opening of the Stanciq-Bellanoc border crossing linking Kosovo with Northern Macedonia was warned in January 2019. The Ministry of Internal Affairs had warned of the opening of this border crossing repeatedly during 2019. Initially it was said to be opened in August, then in November and finally mid-December, but that it was not.

MPB Deputy Minister Izmi Zeka has indicated that the EU Office has asked them shortly after some of their officials are not in Kosovo.

The EU's “Office on the basis of the conversations we've had called for us to wait a little while after some of their officials are not in Kosovo and that's the information I have on their request to wait a little further”, the deputy minister had said.

The EU's office in Pristina has stated that the works have been carried out and that the opening date will be set in accordance with the European Union delegation in Skopje and the authorities in northern Macedonia.

“Works were carried out only a few days ago, and the date of inauguration will now be decided in an agreement with all sides, including authorities from Northern Macedonia and the European Union Delegation to Skopje”, said in response to the EU Office in Kosovo.

Also, the Ministry of Internal Affairs declared that only people and cars will be allowed for circulation in the first six months.

“At this border crossing point in the first six months will not have commercial aspects that will mean no high tones with goods, but only people and cars will have access to all kinds of vehicles in the first six months, even on commercial aspects to exploit this border crossing point”, the MPB response said.
