Iraqi rain lawmaker Anaam al-Khisae has said Iraq will respond by legal action if US President Donald Trump, through threats, impose sanctions on the country.
Trump reacted Sunday after an Iraqi Parliament vote, that he would cease the presence of all foreign troops from Iraq.
The vote opposed the US attack on General Qasem Solejmani, which for Iraqi lawmakers has been described as flagrant violation of the country's sovereignty and violations of international agreements.
My next response to the violation of Iraq's sovereignty from America will be criminalising American troops, through legal action”, al-Khisae said on Twitter.
Trump declared there would be sanctions like never before.
“If they ask us to leave, if we don't do it socially, we will impose sanctions as never before”, he said.
Trump added that the cost of the presence of American troops in Iraq over the years should be repaid by Iraq if he decides to give up the deal allowing troops to stay on Periscope.
