“Sanctions will affect people who own, operate, do business or help sectors of the Iranian economy, including the construction, production, textiles and mining”, Mnuchin said at the White House.
Mnuchin added that the measures include 17 sanctions against the biggest steel and iron producers in Iran and eight senior Iranian officials.
Pompeo stressed that sanctions, originally announced by US President Donald Trump, will deprive the regime of billions of revenues.
Trump's announcement came Wednesday after Tehran attacked American forces in Iraq with rockets in retaliation for the murder of senior Iranian General Qassem Solejmani last week from Washington.
