The US president's envoy for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Ambassador Richard Green, said talks on restoring the railway line between Pristina and Belgrade have gone well and thanked experts on both sides attending the meeting.
Representatives of Kosovo and Serbia met in Berlin on Monday, under Yerenelli's mediation, Klen Kosova reports.
“We have made good progress this morning, releasing a Letter of Goal for Railway Co-operation. Discussions have gone so well that we have discussed other matters. We will work to complete the railway target letter, via e - mail, during the next week, or later. I want to thank experts from Serbia and Kosovo, who have traveled to Berlin today for these talks”, Yerenelli said in a statement to Radio Free Europe.
Green, who is ambassador of the United States to Germany, gave no more details about what other topics were discussed.
Last Friday, Grenelli and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, confirmed the agreement on restoring railway traffic between Kosovo and Serbia.
Grell also spoke on the issue with Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, and with the leaders of Vetevendosje and the Democratic League of Kosovo Democratic Party these are making efforts to form the coalition government in Kosovo.
Based on Kosovo's outgoing Ministry of Infrastructure's decision, Pal Lekaj, the Kosovo side in Berlin, was represented by Xheme Veselini, director of the Department and Land Infrastructure, and Rame Cupeva, director of road infrastructure.
The Serbian Pope, meanwhile, led Marko Djuric, director of the Office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia.
“Although our institutions are constantly ready for contribution to good stability and neighbourhood, we stress that any agreement that will be reached will be only under the Constitution and the laws in effect of the Republic of Kosovo”, Lekaj wrote on Facebook.
Outgoing Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj told reporters Monday that Kosovo's railway infrastructure is too weak and almost dysfunctional.
Our “irons that connect us to Serbia are in very bad shape. The renovation is under way. It's a big project with the European Union. An agreement with Serbia on traffic will not harm Kosovo “, Haradinaj said.
The deal for railway traffic came in the same week, when the two sides -- also under Yerenelli's mediation -- agreed to deploy a direct airline between Pristina and Belgrade.
