The Greek Parliament today elected a woman as president of the republic, for the first time in the country's history, a magistrate with experience as an environmental rights specialist.
Ekaterini Sakellaropoulos, 63, currently president of the State Council, received the first votes of 261 deputies from 300.
With black hair and round glasses, the current president of the Council of State, fervent environmental protection, is expected to be elected in the first round of elections, with the prime minister's proposal, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, out of at least 260 deputies from 300.
Ekaterini Sakellaropoulos is a candidate of the party “Unity and Progress”, also presented by the conservative prime minister, who has elected him to the post because it exceeds the usual overparty divisions.
Her name appeared on January 15th during a solemn television speech, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, that the candidate has immediately made consensus in a divided but multi-typical society, under the covering of the European group for equality.
