The data showed that the average air temperature in Europe was 3.2 degrees Celsius higher than the December reference standard for 1981-2010.
Global temperatures also nearly reached the record set in December 2015.
Meanwhile, data also shows that 2019 was the second hottest year registered at 0.19 degrees Celsius above average.
Copernicus says that the five hottest years ever recorded are the last five.
The results are in line with earlier projections of the world meteorology organisation and the global carbon project, while the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere continues to rise. /tch
