The European Union's Climate Change Monitoring Agency, Copernicus, has reported that temperatures in Europe, December 2019, were the highest ever recorded for this month.
The data showed that the average air temperature in Europe was 3.2 degrees Celsius higher than the December reference standard for 1981-2010.
Global temperatures also nearly reached the record set in December 2015.
In the meantime, data also shows that 2019 was the second hottest year recorded at 0.59 degrees Celsius above average.
Copernicus says the five hottest years ever recorded are the last five.
The results are in line with earlier forecasts of the world meteorology organisation and the global carbon project, while the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere continues to rise.
