Meteorologist Cameron Coutts said that Australia's high rate of fires in the past few days has affected the air in New Zealand to be polluted and that this is the fourth time during this season this country is affected by the fires of the neighboring state.
Coutts said this smoke could increase the likelihood of rain and storm on South Island. This weather was predicted to be royal during the first day of 2020.

Tourists in the town of Wanaka were the first to investigate the smoke, and many of them said they could smell smoke in the air.
However, a spokesman for local authorities said no health alarm has been activated because of this smoke and that it does not pose a threat to residents, writes the Guardian”.
