The main challenge of public safety in the country continues to be traffic safety, where 16 thousand and 199 accidents have taken place during 2019 where 113 lives have been lost in these accidents.
So said at the 7th International Conference titled “The challenges of transport furniture and public security”, organised by the Temple College, as well as the Kosovo Academy for Public Security.
Dean of the Faculty of Public Security Bejtush Gashi said public security in general and that road in particular continues to remain among the main problems for state institutions and all society.
He said that worrying is the large number of traffic accidents and the number of people dead in accidents in our country.
The large number of road accidents is worrying about road users as well as Kosovo. Based on 2019 statistical records, there have been a total of 16 thousand 199 road accidents of all kinds, where 113 lives have been lost in these accidents. Disturbing is the large number of people easily and heavily injured, with statistics showing that in 2019 bodily injuries as a result of the accident, there were 11 thousand and 865 people. From the recommendations released by this conference within urban furniture we encourage participants, and especially the institutions to take them into consideration in drafting and reviewing the urban furniture plans”, he said.
Meanwhile, the director of the Academy of Technical Sciences “Team”, Muhamet Krasniqi, said that the safety of moving on the road is an issue that should concern institutions and citizens.
The security of moving to the streets very sensitive issues for each citizen, therefore this sensitivity should concern all citizens and institutions for increased care and concrete measures in this direction. Each year, 1.35 million people die on the streets, meaning that nearly 3 thousand 700 people die in road traffic as a result of road traffic accidents. Road traffic injuries are the most common cause of young people's deaths across the globe”, Krasniqi said.
Krasniqi said there is also reason and optimism because countries of the world through various activities have managed to improve road safety.
The General Director of the Academy for Public Security, Ismail Smakqi, said that the safety challenge in traffic needs increased attention of institutions and citizens.
The security challenge in general, the same traffic is one of the issues that really needs much increased attention not only from the security agencies or various communities that are certainly dealing with traffic, but also from all citizens. So, they would be very welcome to all the research that will be presented today, but also the recommendations that will be presented”, he said.
For the challenges facing a city in traffic security, Jhafer Tahiri, chairman of the Power Commander, spoke.
We don't have a bus station today and we don't actually have a functional train station. Two basics, or two basic points, for a safe public transport that would increase the safety of traffic participants and reduce the number of vehicles and increase citizens' safety and furniture. I inherited a city that once had a bus station that in a trial process was lost”, he said.
Even Kosovo Police Deputy General Director Samedin Mehmeti said the main challenge facing the country in terms of public safety is safety in traffic.
Our country is unfortunately facing one of the main challenges of public safety, such as traffic safety. Millions of people lose their lives and are disabled as a result of traffic accidents, not counting on the material damage caused by traffic accidents. It would not suffice for human society to be enough to worry about the problem. Only a literal combination of academic education, technical maintenance and the establishment of security measures would enable us to face this challenge in an adequate way”, he said.
