The National Power Association has been declared a national terrorist organisation. The decision was made by unanimous vote by the Board of Supervisors in San Francisco, a Californian city legislative body. The resolution was presented by local politician Catherine Stefan on July 30th.
The reasons for the decision-proposed by Stefan followed this year's July 29th shooting in California that led to the death of four people and the injuries of twelve others.
“The NRA does propaganda in favor of weapons and puts weapons in people's hands. No one more than they feed shots”, the lawmaker explained.
The resolution will have no practical effect, but it represents a change in vision American citizens have for firearms.
The NRA response and the group's spokeswoman for firearms, Amy Hunter, has reacted sharply after the decision.
This is a disgusting attempt to find a guilty cause for the epidemic of violence that has plagued our nation. It's a reckless attack on an organization that respects the law”.
NRA, through its Twitter profile, also added that “San Francisco must be ashamed “, inviting members to support them with the hashtag IamThe NRA.
Shooting data-
In August alone, 53 people were killed with firearms in the United States: 22 of them in the El Paso massacre, 9 in Dayton (Ohio), and 7 near Odessa (Texas).
