Locals report powerful explosions and gunfire at the Baledogle Airport in the southern region of Ulbelle.
The militant al-Shabab group said it had made the attack, using a car bomb to detonate through the doors before sending fighters inside.
Military officials say jihadists had withdrawn, however, writes the BBC, translates Periscopi.
