At first, a hijacked plane had crashed over the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City, creating a deep crack on the building's face and triggering fire, and 17 minutes later another passenger plane crashed over the south tower.
About 3,000 people were killed in the September 11, 2001, attack. Among the victims in twin towers were 2,752 of them, 343 firefighters and 60 policemen. Most of the victims were civilians of 70 different nationalities.
Ceremonies in New York and Washington will begin with a minute of silence when the attacks occurred.
Experts say that September 11, 2001, changed many things in the world. These events were caused by the launch of a large US-led campaign against terrorism.
