At the extraordinary municipal council meeting, Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj said 20% of the fund (20 million dollars) would go into solidarity for the city of Durres, which was also affected by the earthquake.

Tirana's municipality urgently approved two major decisions that come to the aid of people in economic distress. Thus, the payments for September for all people with limited capacity and those who receive payment from the 6% fund for economic assistance will get it earlier.

From tomorrow we will be able to allocate funds; not only that, but we have put in this project the payment for disabled persons, 1 to September 30th, and economic assistance, because it is not worth waiting for the end of the month, let us pass the aid faster”, Veliaj stressed.

In a sign of solidification, members of the Tirana Municipal Council unanimously decided that their September salary would be donated to earthquake affected.

Mayor Veliaj assured all families affected by the earthquake that a facilitating policy for the reconstruction of residences will be pursued. He stressed that after the verification, all who want to build with the same cube (representation) will have accelerated procedures.

“Problem imdias is home to some families. We have 35 buildings that are out of order. Mostly, there are buildings in rural areas that we have declared uninhabited; some of them we are transferring to social centres. We're doing another dorm, we take advantage of the fact that the university starts a little later, and we've got a month to absorb these needs. We have three palaces that the deputy prime minister had inspected in the Kominat, still old palaces, the ones called Soviet palaces, for which we're going to make a decision tomorrow; if experts at the Construction Institute declare them uninhabitable, then we're going to open a dorm. In the meantime, if some require construction from the top, then we will go into a longer-term formula that is the social dwellings we have in Shkoza and then we will secure transport”, Veliaj said. /Attish
