Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj's promise that visa liberalisation with the European Union will happen in September of this year is likely to be equal to zero, as the country at the time is expected to be in the middle of the election campaign following the distribution of the Kosovo Assembly, which is expected to occur on August 22nd 2019, while the visa issue will not be put in place in the EU decision-making institutions in September.
Integrated Affairs Knower Besnik Vasoli speaking of Kosovo visa liberalisation has said that the sufficient fight against organised crime and corruption, the growing number of asylum seekers, the political situation in Kosovo, etc. are just some of the factors that have influenced EU member states not to be unique to visa removal.
The sufficient non-compliance of organised crime and corruption has negatively affected member states to enable Kosovars to travel without visas. Also, the growing number of asylum seekers from Western Balkan countries has negatively affected the EU, especially some states that are reluctant to make the decision on visa liberalisation, as they fear Kosovars will also emigrate in an irregular way and thus bring trouble to those states”, Vasol said of “Zerin”.
In addition, Vasol estimates that deteriorating relations between Kosovo and Serbia affect the scepticism of certain EU member states in relation to Kosovo visas.
The political situation established in Kosovo -- namely, relations between Kosovo and Serbia -- has made the decision-making process difficult. This is about Kosovo's tax on Serbian products, which legally enters the Kosovo market. With the letter of the states of the QUINT we have been offered a good chance, which we have to use very cleverly”, he said.
Vasoli has voiced sceptical that visa removal could occur this year. According to him, it is possible that in 2020 this issue will be on the agenda of the EU.
The new EU subx0 institutions that emerged from the last elections will start working on November 1st, 2019. I do not expect visa liberalisation for Kosovo to be the main topic they will address. It is possible that the Kosovo issue will be discussed in March or June 2020,”, he has said further
