He had suffered a major liver crack, resulting in massive internal bleeding, as explained by Lotto Soudal's team doctor, Maarten Meirhaeghe.

As a result, Meirhaeghe explains, Byorg suffered cardiac arrest. He found that if such trauma had occurred in the hospital, chances of salvation would have been slim again.
