Serbia continues to build houses in northern neighbourhoods

Construction of houses for Serbs has continued in Kosovo's predominantly northern neighbourhoods. The Northern Mitrovica Municipal Administration has allowed Serbs to build houses in that part of Mitrovica, especially in the district of “Vitakro”, until Albanians can get permission to rebuild their homes.
About 300 Albanian houses in northern Mitrovica neighbourhoods are still in ruins, as housing construction is not allowed by the northern Mitrovica municipality, which is led by Serbian List leader Goran Rakic.
Many northern neighbourhood Albanians expelled from northern Mitrovica in 2000, even further live as refugees in the southern city of Mitrovica, in serious housing conditions. Northern Mitrovica Albanians express concern because of the construction of houses for Serbs, ensuring that houses are being built for Serbs who have never lived in that section, writes the newspaper “Zer”.
In the neighbourhood of “Vitakut”, where construction has intensified for Serbs, the North Mitrovica municipality has allowed no Albanian to rebuild the house or build new houses on its property.
