The star's social media sites have been engulfed by thousands of comments in Cyrillic text looking for the star “makes up his share of Lake Baykal”.
Baykal is a large lake in Russia that is said to be threatened by pollution and hunting by the World Wildlife Fund.
DiCaprio's Instagram account has been bombed with posts in Russian asking for help from the actor.
Last translated comment: “Leviushka! Watch our Baykal! We ask you for this brotherhood in the name of all of Russia”
DiCaprio appears to have been targeted because of his history of environmentalism, as he regularly posts in social media about climate change.
He founded the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998 and told the BBC in 2016 that he believed climate change was the biggest issue facing young people today.
