Kosovo's Olympic team aims to win medals at the European Youth Olympic Festival, which will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, starting from 21 July to 27 July.
Kosovo Olympic Team for the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) has been introduced today. Baku 2019, held on July 21st-27th in Azerbaijan's capital.
Kosovo will be represented by 18 athletes aged 15-18, who represent five different sports -- judo, athletics, swimming, wrestling and tennis.
The list is led by young Olympic bronze medallist Buenos Aires 2018, Judist, Erza Mumniovic, who, along with Fatonia Kasap, missed the presentation because of preparations.
A total of five athletes are represented by swimming. The sports queen, athletics, will be represented by four contestants, such as tennis, while wrestling has two.
Kosovo Olympic Committee President Besim Hasani voiced optimism that, along with the Judo sport, which has established tradition of international successes at EYOF Baku 2019, we expect successes from other sports.
“Preparations have been made much earlier in federations, thanks to support from the means KOK generates. If we look at the past of successes, we have the best results from Judo to the senators even in the new categories, but the pleasant surprise of last is Muhamet Ramadan's gold medal from the Balkan Athletics Championship, so expectations for good results are also from athletics, but we will not pressure anyone. We seek good behaviour and maximum performance by each athlete”, said President Hasani, who expressed the importance of participating the Kosovo Olympic Team in a country that does not recognise the independence of our state.
The gold medal winner last week at the U-18 Balkan Championship held in Istanbul, athlete Muhamet Ramadani, expressed his optimism of winning medals.
He in Istanbul won the medal in the five-pound shot, while in addition to this discipline, he will throw the disc at Baku.
The hope for success also has tennis sports, especially with talent, Vesa Djiaj, who expressed happiness that he has been given the opportunity to represent tennis and Kosovo at EYOF Baku 2019.
On behalf of the trainers, Ziber John, of wrestling, thanked the KOK for the opportunity to prepare for EYOF Baku 2019, until we hope that our team will return with medals from this festival.
Also at the conference were KOK Secretary General Shasivar Hadzijaj, Vice President Gazmend Maxhun, member of the Executive Board, Ramadan Selimi.
An Anti-Doping seminar was held before the conference.
For Kosovo, the European Summer Youth Olympic Festival is third after representation in Tbilisi 2015 and Gyor 2017.
Baku 2019 is the golden occasion for the Kosovo Olympic team to win the first medal, which lacks our country in such festivals.
