Department of Journalism Assistant Alban Zenelli recalls the time of students himself in this department, says he is happy that this laboratory is being inaugurated, on the day of the new students' admission.
The lab's “Media is a new television studio that can function not only on television but on several other subjects, under studies in the Department of Journalism. I am glad to have this solemn opening at the time when we are expecting new students. The Pristina University contest opened yesterday, and we with these equipment that we have available, the practical work of our students will be at much higher level”, Zeneli said.
He said this laboratory is a grant of the American Embassy in Pristina, for which he is also grateful. Zenel, among other things, says that he is grateful for the renovation of this hall, in which the opening of this television studio has already been established.
Life, Albiona, and Elvira, three students at the arts faculty, have also voluntarily realized the murals around this television laboratory.
University of Pristina Rector Marjan Dema has congratulated students of prepared journalism from this faculty.
I wish that from this environment, very important journalists would be prepared to fill a very important pillar of democracy for development that is a media pillar. I expect you to inform on time, correctly, in order to develop democracy, develop Kosovo's technical-technology development. Because we all know that the media play a very important role in intellectual, civil establishment of all areas of society”, Demas says.
Dema says the opening of this laboratory also presents a step forward to realising the goals stemming from the University of Pristina's strategic plan.
Raymond Welch of the American Embassy in Pristina has expressed extremely satisfied with the inauguration of this project.
“The way we communicate information is rapidly changing, and the journalism profession needs to keep up with these changes. Such a dedicated space at the university is of vital importance to professional training of students. Where they will be able to develop projects related to radio television journalism, public relations and online media”, he says.
Welch expects many results from this television studio, such as student development, implementation of new projects to be assigned by professors, using new technology, and implementing the programme students will develop for the university community.
Philology faculty Dean Lindita Rugova said that opening this television studio is a new form of learning, thinking and new form of co-operation.
This change will carry with it the speed of technological development and also determine the orientation of professional teaching at the Department of Journalism. A MediaLab, the student work in it should be considered a special education. A critical awareness, a freedom to create individual and group projects of students”, Rugova says.
According to her, this laboratory is attributed to a traditional professor, where the role of students and teachers is transit.
Professor of the Journalial Department, who simultaneously legalizes the subject “Televisor”, Remzie Sahini-Hojaj, says this opening day is no coincidence. She has thanked the American Embassy for the donation and also for the American people's contribution to Kosovo.
This project is a continuation of our continued co-operation with the American Embassy. In 2015 we were part of a visit to Arizona State University and there we saw a similar laboratory. As soon as we got back from there, we quickly decided that this dream we saw there would come true. This too is a constant aid the American Embassy has given to the University of Pristina in terms of raising the level and quality of education”, Sahini-Hojaj concludes.
Representatives of the US Embassy, University of Pristina and the Department of Journalism attended the ceremony.
