The Federal Commission for Trade(FTC) has approved a fine of $5 billion on Facebook due to a privacy preservation scandal called Cambridge Analytica. The Wall Street Journal revealed this news.
This is the biggest fine ever imposed by FTC on a technology company. The biggest ticket ever was 22.5 million dollars to Google.
However, this is only 9% of the total Facebook benefit in 2018.
The FTC fined Facebooku because it contracted the Cambridge Analytica company, which is a political firm, allowing access to the data of 87 million users.
FTC and Facebook have not given further comments on this issue.
Congressmen had asked for an even bigger fine, so there was some disappointment about the decision.
