The mayor of the Year's municipality, Skender Haliti, said 20 years ago Vitita took a breath freely due to the KLA contribution and international allies' assistance. According to him, the best gratitude for freedom for all those who contributed is good work for the country's construction and a democratic society.
Haliti, speaking of his local governance, said he has managed to increase the capacities for citizens' services in order to ensure well-being for all.
Over the past few years, we have increased citizens' capacity for service and in building needed infrastructure, we are continuing to provide for our citizens better well-being an overall economic development for better working conditions and institutions. The highest quality health services, better education, more complete infrastructure cleaner environment, and a year with bright future for all without any distinction”, he said.

Honored today as an honorary citizen of the municipality of the Year felt the former president of Albania, Bujar Nishani. He said he was even more honored since he accepted this title with former President Jahjaga.
President Nishani said he finds no words to express his thanks for
"By inviting me and honoring me along with the president, Atifete Jahjaga added to me this honor and privilege after she united me even to honor a personality like Mrs. Jahjaga, the voice, the progressive contribution she made and her civilist who has done great Kosovo... The honor and appreciation that today is addressed by your personality and on behalf of that honorable representation of the citizens of the Year that you carry are so much to me that it is actually hard to formulate a full and deserved address to express all gratitude”, Nishani stressed.

Former Albanian President Bujar Nishani, as he has congratulated the 20th anniversary of Kosovo's liberation, said that this year Kosovo is marking the 20th anniversary of popular resistance over Serbian barbaria and the 20th anniversary of the launch of a key partnership with Western countries.
Nishani also said Kosovo's land was occupied by many invaders, but none of them managed to break up its people.
“20 Anniversary of the popular resistance to the barbarity of iron and fire, the 20th anniversary of the collapse of the Liberation Army with the Nazism of modern Balkan times, the 20th anniversary of the martyrdom of Kosovo's sons and daughters, the best sons to build the foundations of this country for the next millenniums. We remember once again the start of a grand partnership of Kosovo with the West with its best friends, the 20th anniversary of the triumph of civilization over barbaria, the 20th anniversary of the start that a new era is rising over the pain of the past but does not prevent it from coming up with hope for the future”, the former Albanian president said.

During this ceremony, the mayor of the municipality of the Year has also shared the city's key to these two personalities. Also present at the event were prominent political and local and foreign security personalities. In the second decade of the liberation of the year in the centre of the city, institutional mechanisms and cultural, artistic and sports groups of the municipality of the Year have been unearthed.
