He said NATO has acted in 1999 to prevent a catastrophe.
“NATO moved in 1999 to stop the humanitarian disaster in Kosovo. NATO acted to prevent further and continuing human rights violations and the killing of civilians. KFOR has secured a safe environment in Kosovo where all its citizens can advance”, the British diplomat on Facebook writes.
As we mark this anniversary, the British diplomat said we should remember all those affected by war, those who suffered terrible violence, including the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.
I especially think of over 1,000 children killed, even after June 12, 1999. I think of those peacekeepers, in KFOR and UNMIK, who died in the service of peace in Kosovo. In their memory, we must engage in a better future. Support for the victims. Justice for them and their families. But also a commitment to tell the truth about what happened and to do everything in our power to stop it again. As President Clinton said today, peace action is a choice each of us can make”, writes O'Connell.
