Kosovo is making the last preparations for marking the 20th anniversary of NATO troops' entry into the country following the expulsion of Serbian military, police and paramilitary forces, which committed secular crimes against the civilian population.
On June 12th 1999, an estimated 50,000 KFOR troops had entered Kosovo, which after two decades has been reduced to 350,000 sos as a result of improved security situation in the country. KFOR officials point to “Zin” that in June 1999, soldiers from 39 different nations of the world had arrived in Kosovo.
It is not easy to show the exact number of soldiers who entered Kosovo on June 12, 1999, but we know that during the first few months there were about 50,000 soldiers from around 39 nations. Over the past 20 years, their numbers have steadily changed in line with developments. Today there are about 3,500 troops, with the contribution of 28 nations, 20 of which are part of NATO and of 8 partner countries”, KFOR reportedly gave the newspaper “Zri”.
