According to Hoti, without their support and without their participation, there can be no improvement in the election process in Kosovo.
We remember yesterday, civil society, including Democracy in Action/ Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI); Democracy for Development (D4D); Democracy Plus (D+); Group for Jury and Political Studies (GLPS); The Kosovar Forum of Limited Environmentality has suspended participation in Parliamentary Commission Ad-hoc for improving and strengthening the electoral process, as they announced, until the withdrawal of the Law on Financing Political Subjects.
Due to discontent with the draft Political Party Financing Bill, key civil society organisations have suspended participation in the Ad-hoc Parliamentary Commission that supports the work of the election process. The Parliamentary Commission, formed in April this year, is aimed at addressing the recommendations of election observers from the EU. Without the participation of civil society, I don't believe that it can become the substantial improvement of the election process in Kosovo”, Hoti wrote on Facebook.
Hoti, says the bill for which civil society organisations are justly opposed does not at present fall into the competence of this Parliamentary Commission.
“in the quality of the chairman of this Parliamentary Commission, invites these organisations to continue to contribute to the Adviser Group to adequately address the recommendations of EU observers, just as we have in advance with the Commission's work plan. I also want to announce that no bill -- much less -- will be backed by the Democratic League of Kosovo for financing of Political parties, which conflicts with constitutional spirit and electoral principles according to EU standards. I believe that in the Kosovo Assembly we will succeed in building the necessary consensus for a law on financing political parties that are in line with EU standards and providing financing and transparent reporting of political parties, which ensures the accountability of political parties to citizens and voters”, Hoti has said.
