In a match from its DC United club against Orlando City, the English assailant presented goalkeeper Brian Rowe, even though he was about nine metres inside his gate area, the Express broadcasts.
This was among the greatest goals in Rooney's long and spectacular career.
Rooney took a ball in his field and saw that the doorman had emptied the gate, he struck 64m away and managed to score.
That goal was enough to secure DC United victory 1:0 over Ireland.
The 33-year-old has scored a goal from half his field for every club he played, for Everest, Manchester United, and now DC United.
