On June 12th 1999, the first NATO infantry troops have landed in Kosovo, while the evacuation of Serb forces has begun. The mission was divided into five areas of responsibility belonging to US, English, French, German and Italian KFOR.
With NATO's entry into Kosovo, the deployment of the UN organisation's provisional mission, which would manage the country for a certain period of time, has begun. At the same time, the Kosovo Liberation Army has been disbanded to become the Kosovo Protection Corps.
