The Republic of Kosovo is a secular state, multiethnic society, composed of Albanians and other communities, says in the text of the Constitution with the entry into force of which implementation of the former UN chief negotiator Martti Ahtisaari begins.
The entry into force of the Kosovo Constitution marks the beginning of a new period of political developments.
The constitution goes into effect 120 days after the declaration of independence. Kosovo institutions have managed for a short period of time to prepare and adopt 40 laws coming up as proposals from the Ahtisaari Pack.
The constitution's entry into force is opposed by representatives of Serbs who have disagreed with Kosovo's declaration of independence, which has so far been recognised by more than 115 countries in the world.
