Appaz Iliev, who had eight children, 35 grandchildren and 34 great - grandchildren, has said that the secret of his life span was to sleep at 7 p.m. by 11 hours of sleep at night.
The oldest man in the world from Russia who said his life span was possible by avoiding alcohol, tobacco, and medicine.
Official Yunus-Bek Evkurov, paying tribute to him, said our longest-lived man, Russia's oldest citizen, has died at the age of 123. Appaz lived through the ages and generations raising eight children. He had 35 grandchildren, 34 grandchildren and some great-great grandchildren. He remained a gentle, loving man who loved life. I know this because I've met him several times”
Appaz worked as a shepherd from the age of seven and fought in the Red Army in the Russian Civil War in 1917-1922.
But at 45 years of age he had qualified as too old to fight in World War II and instead became a tractor driver.
In 1944 he was disfellowshipped from Stalin along with the ethnic Ingish people for Kazakhstan, where he lived in great poverty in asylum.
If his age is correct and his birth records were officially surviving, he would be the longest-lived man ever than Japan's Jeroemon Kimura (1897-2013), officially verified as the longest-lived man who died at the age of 116.
Appaz avoided television, did not smoke or consume alcohol and also stayed away from doctors and drugs as much as he could, even though at 121 he underwent eye surgery as a result of the cataract.
He has eaten fresh vegetables from his garden, and fresh local meat in the village of Guli in the mountains of Russia's Caucasus.
He's been drinking milk and fresh water. After all this he's made sure he sleeps 11 hours and falls asleep at 7 p.m.
Even though he was a Russian citizen, he never learned Russian and spoke his native Ingusche.
Born in March 1896 under the reign of Carit Nicholas 2, he was a shepherd in the mountains from the age of 7 and alone in caring for sheep.
He worked his entire life as a shepherd, possessing 800 animals on his farm.
At age 119 it was reported that he had all his teeth, writes Mirror,
