Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has declared for Russian television “Rosiya 24” that Belgrade still cannot recognise the Crimean as Russia's territory because such a decision would jeopardise resolving the Kosovo status issue.
According to the Serbian president, the recognition of the Crime as part of Russia could be used by Western states as a pretext to obtain Serbia's rights for Kosovo. If we do that today, they will freeze a parallel with Kosovo. They mean that, in accordance with this principle, Kosovo is independent and that we no longer have the right to fight for it”, he clarified.
However, Vuciqi stressed that this approach has not affected relations between Belgrade and Moscow. Our narrow lines with Russia are not questioned by anyone. This is about political strategy and tactics, meaning that we have no right to risk the vitality of our state and our national interests”, he said.
I believe that every normal person in Russia and any other country understands this”, he added.
According to the Russian medium, “Provinca Serbian Autonomation of Kosovo and Metohija unilaterally declared independence in February 2008 and more than 60 states, including Russia, China, India, Israel, Greece and Spain, oppose recognition of Kosovo”.
