In the study, scientists wanted to find out if there was a danger of people getting a dog disease from a scanner that was also used to examine veterinarians.
Researchers obtained hair from 18 men and the necks of 30 dogs, comparing the results.
Professor Andreas Gutzeit, of Switzerland's Hirsland Clinic, said that “rs discovered an apparently high bacterial charge in male beard samples compared to dog wool”.
The study found that all bearded males, aged 18 to 76, showed high microbic count.
Seven men were also found to possess germs that posed a threat to human health.
