The Serbian Defence Ministry on Wednesday promoted a book by a former military chief who is serving a 22-year sentence for crimes committed by Serb troops in Kosovo during the 1998-1999 war.
A video recording enabled General Nebojsa Pavkovic to address participants at a ministerial ceremony from his cell in Finland. He said his book, which is part of his diary that he had kept during the war in Kosovo, depicts a heroic “Serbian protection “racion of NATO”, the AP reports.
A UN war crimes tribunallus sentenced Pavkovic to penetrate, violent transfer, murder and persecution of ethnic Albanians in 2009.
Serbia has marked NATO's bomber campaign with ceremonies that mainly promote anti-Western sentiments that are also empowered by pro-Russia propaganda in state-run local media, broadcast Koha.net.
The former military journal is titled “78 Days on embracing the Merciful Angel”, which, as the AP writes, is based on Serbian propaganda claiming that NATO gave Kosovo's campaign the code name “The Merciful Angel”.
Since Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq began his political establishment in 2012, Serbian authorities, according to the US news agency AP, have welcomed convicted war criminals and helped them become active participants in public and political life.
