Kosovo done with agricultural insurance

In this case, MBPHR Minister Dijana Zivic has said that with the establishment of the insurance system for agricultural productivity, opportunities are creating for managing various risks in this producer, preventing or minimising their negative consequences. It has also shown that the Ministry of Agriculture will subsidise farmers to a 50 percent share of the cost of agricultural insurance prices in order to make them more affordable for farmers, and to support and protect their agricultural businesses.
“Beyond this system currently in organised form we will protect the labor and income of farmers on the one hand, but also the standard of their lives influenced by the eventual loss of production or quality, on the other side. Through implementation of this system, we will also be able to affect the level of access to agriculture sector finance and rural development, and with this we will also influence growth of agricultural productivity in the country. Also, this system will create opportunities for the growth of this productivity and economic development of the country”, the minister has said.
Meanwhile, Austria's ambassador to Kosovo, Gernot Pfandler, estimated that with the launch of the agricultural insurance system, the start of a more productive agriculture across the country is also marked.
“Insurance scheme in the agricultural sector is one of those parts that complements the mosaic for development of the agricultural sector in this country so that there will be an increase of agricultural productivity in the ongoing”, he said.
On the other hand, Leah Soroka, programme manager for Europe and Central Asia, the Agro-Finance project at the World Bank, said the system in which they worked together with the MBPHR is necessary for Kosovo farmers.
“Agricultural security is an essential component to make the agriculture sector more competitive, strengthen the adequate environment and increase technical skills in order to help reduce risk. The new agriculture insurance system will help increase confidence in the loan to agriculture, and that will then help increase productivity and productivity”, Soroka said.
Representatives of the Central Bank of Kosovo, the Association of Insurance in Kosovo, representatives of the country's Insurance Company, and local farmers and agrarians, who have also been introduced in the process of implementing the agricultural security system.
