Prime Minister Yousef Chahed said the investigation into the state institution's medical, pharmaceutical and hygienic practices.
Cherif's resignation comes only four months after his appointment.
The Sunnisian pediatry Society through a post on the social network Facebok called on authorities to shed light on the case and criticised the unsafe “conditions in which health professionals” work.
