He stressed that it is necessary to keep all channels of open communication.
The dialogue is one that prevents many ugly things that may have happened between our two countries. I don't feel any pleasure in this contact. We both know where we are from, but it is not an obstacle to working peacefully”, he said.
Asked whether he talked to Vuciq about events 20 years ago, President Thaci replied: “He lost, I won, but I don't want to charge the discussion with the past”
He in an interview for the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung denied claims concerning a possible deal with Belgrade in June in Washington.
“These are not real, but I will do my best to sign such an agreement at the White House”, Thaci said.
He says the EU has never been able to fix things on its own, and today it is even less capable of that.
Asked if they have all hopes in the US alone, President Thaci said the US is important in resolving this issue.
He stressed that the agreement has no alternative and that it is possible for Belgrade and Pristina to achieve peace as Germany and France have once done.
Asked whether he had support in Kosovo for compromise with Belgrade, President Thaci said more than 70 per cent of the population supports dialogue.
He said he was trying to reach a comprehensive agreement, which would eventually resolve all open issues between Belgrade and Pristina, adding that there are currently no documents on changing borders or maps.
According to him, the issue of border change as a solution is a topic that is exaggerated in the media.
Otherwise, Thaci said in the interview for Süddeutsche Zeitung, that on March 24th 1999 it was in the mountains, “on the border of Albania and Kosovo”, and that he was announced by NATO that the bombing would begin that day.
As far as charges of alleged war crimes were concerned, Thaci noted that these monstrous claims were built in Serbia and that it is ready, if invited, to be declared in The Hague, as it is important that truth be brought to light.
He added that overcoming the past is important and that he is convinced that now is the right time for peace.
