Corruption is a serious threat not only to Kosovo, but also to the more developed countries and poses a challenge to democracy. The phenomenon of corruption is a global challenge, and besides the consequences it causes in political and socioeconomic developments, corruption causes consequences even on the security level.
These comments were made by President Hashim Thaci at the conference for combating high-level corruption organised by the OSCE Mission.
Thaci said Kosovo has made great steps in the area of legislation, has adopted relevant legislation for fighting corruption, creating institutional and institutional mechanisms for that purpose.
“As a new state, we must be uncompetitive in preventing and fighting corruption. The rule of law and the good government drunk to combat negative phenomena on this level also fosters economic growth and regulates the welfare of citizens. In this direction, the Republic of Kosovo has taken a series of actions aimed at consolidating rule of law and in functioning respecting constitutional order”, Thaci said.
Ambassador Ian Braathu, O Mission chief The SEU said they are making efforts to fight corruption in Kosovo.
He has asked Kosovo institutions for a serious and systematic approach to the practical fight against corruption, as highlighted in strategic documents and Kosovo laws.
The corrupt shareholders involved in cases of major corruption should not be allowed to escape punishment. There should not or dare be no punishment for this corruption, and our common goal is only to increase resistance to high and large-level corruption that are very damaging to the economy, society and state institutions”, Braathu stressed.
And, at this conference, it was said that prominent experts from Transparency International would outline high-level corruption concepts and its global effects.
Moreover, the conference is planned as initiativeal events for sensibising participants with regard to why prevention and fighting high-corruption is important internationally.
