Costett: America's patience can come to an end, Kosovo and Serbia must reach agreement

US Ambassador to Kosovo Philip Costet has said the US is committed to providing support to dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, but does not guarantee that such commitment will be in the future if Pristina and Belgrade do not move forward in the short term. Costett, in an interview for [...]
Costett, in an interview for Radio “Contact Plus”, has said that US patience has its limits.
Our source always has limits. One of the things we have shown to two governments in Pristina and Belgrade is that the United States is committed to providing support for the process. President Trump, as it is known, has written to President Thaci and President Vuciq to underline that the American Government is fully committed to this process”, said Costnett, is sending out Telegrafi.
He has warned that if the two governments [of Kosovo and Serbia] do not move in the short term and say “well, we will be ready for several years”, then we cannot guarantee that Washington in the future will be equally committed to this issue, as it is now.
What we have said, what the American Government said, is that we think that 2019 is the year when Kosovo and Serbia should reach the comprehensive agreement. And, in order to reach the deal in 2019, everyone has to go back to the negotiating table and see that this takes place as soon as possible. I don't want the process to connect to any fixed dates”, Costett said.
The American ambassador estimates that talks on the union of Mitrovica currently cannot be productive.
I understand there are concerns. I think people have to calm down because it's important that we all act responsibly. When I say everybody, I still think of both governments. I invite the governments in Pristina and Belgrade to refrain from taking action, which would complicate more the situation”, Kostett said, noting that there is no knowledge there has been talks on the union of Mitrovica.
