The Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe has come up with the results of the study, perhaps to date, of violence against women in Southeast Europe, published in Brussels on Wednesday. The report was worked after the survey of women from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, northern Macedonia, Moldova, Serbia, Albania and Ukraine. In all, 15,179 women selected on the basis of chance have been surveyed during 2018, with the aim of finding “the nature of violence against women, as well as their attitude towards reporting violence”.
“More than two-thirds of women living in the region think violence has become part of the dailyity in their countries, while a fifth think violence is very common”, said Thomas Greminger, the OSCE secretary general. “These are unacceptable facts from both the human aspect and the aspect of security and stability, but from the socioeconomic aspect”, he added.
Kosovo and Albania
The data is presented in general, and some are divided by the state. In a clue where Kosovo differs greatly from the region is on the question of whether the female is obliged to have sex with her partner even when she does not want to. Twenty-six percent of women surveyed in Kosovo have felt they have this obligation, while the average in the region is 17 percent, while in Albania it is 19 percent.
As for the reasoning of the sex relationship without the approval of the woman because of various circumstances even here, Kosovo and Albania keep the highest percentage of “tolerance”. The unwanted sex in marriage is reasoned by 25 percent of women surveyed in Kosovo and 17 percent in Albania, as is the average in the region.
As far as domestic intervention in cases of violence is concerned, 62 percent of Kosovo's surveyed women have said that others should intervene, in Albania this number is 56 percent, while the average is 48 percent. The negative answer on the outside has mostly been given by women from Moldova, where only 41 percent have said the third parties should intervene. The most widespread form of violence is that psychological of our partner.
Guilty of Victims
According to the report, women who are also blamed for violence feel that women should be ordered by men and that domestic violence should be a private matter. “The data from the poll shows, that belief in women's subjection and the silence of the circle continues to dominate the region and that women with such beliefs are the most frequent victims” said in the report.
According to data, there are no social groups of women who are excluded from the possibility of experiencing violence, but some groups are more endangered, including women living in poverty, economic dependence, and women with children. The report was released in Brussels on Wednesday. /dah
