Modern railway construction initiated, 120 people expected to be employed

In this case, Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has said today is a holiday for Kosovo.

While pledging that in the spring of 2021, the railways will be completed as far as Merdare and Leshak.

Infrastructure Minister Paul Lekaj said that the railway investment is good news.

“Today, something new is starting for Kosovo's railway, investment in railways will occur. Trains will be able to develop speeds of up to 150km an hour. From today 210m euros of money provided by the Government of Kosovo through the Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Even the railway system in Kosovo is a priority for the government and for MI”, he said.

Infrako Chief Executive Chief Agron Thaci said that with this investment Kosovo will have a modern railway.

The “from tomorrow start work, I believe we have made good preparation and we will have a line that will be modern and unite all EU criteria”, he said.

EU representative in Pristina Louis Brussa said this railway will have a positive impact on Kosovo's economy.

Our first phase of intervention is about 40m euros, including the design phase. We are uniting people and will have a very positive impact on Kosovo. 120 new jobs will be created. It's a big deal, and I'm very happy to start this project”, he said.
