Education goes on strike for salaries
January 14th, all educational institutions in Kosovo have staged a general strike, with wages raise requirements of 30 per cent. This strike, which has continued for three weeks, was interrupted after the agreement was reached so that part of the teachers ' requests be included in the Law for Pay.

Haradinaj dismisses Serbian minister, has offended Recak massacre victims

110 Kosovo citizens return, 87 still remain in Syria
April 20th, Kosovo institutions have returned 110 citizens who have been to conflict areas in Syria. Leaders of the rule and justice institutions have suggested that of 110 returnees, of them are four fighters, 32 women and 74 children. They have said that 87 citizens from Kosovo are also found in Syria.
Berlin Summit held, part of it Thaci, Haradinaj
April 30th, Germany's Berlin Summit, in which President Hashim Thaci and Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj have participated. German Chancellor Angela Merkel and France's President Emmanuel Macron have been economists at this summit. The summit, attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq, has called for tax removal, but Haradinaj had declined. After the Berlin Summit, it was meant to be held by Paris, but failed.
Wessel Re-elected Chairman PDK
May 7th, Kadri Wessel has been re-elected chairman of the PDK. His re-election is held at the 7th Convention of this party, which is held in Pristina. The PDK chairman's election was made by an open vote by about 700 delegates who attended the convention.
mayoral elections held in four northern municipalities
May 9th -- In the four Serb majority municipalities (North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Leposaviq and Zvecan) -- extraordinary elections have been held, as the mayors of these municipalities had resigned because of the 100 per cent tax. The race in northern municipalities has won those who have resigned.
Parliament adopts resolution blaming Serbia for genocide
May 16th, with 79 votes for Kosovo's Parliament deputies have adopted the resolution for <x0-genocide, crimes against humanity and the war crimes of former Serbian state regime in Kosovo”. Representatives of all political parties, except for the Serb List group, have worked for drafting this resolution.
Haradinaj meets with Chancellor Merkel
June 6th, Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has been hosted at the meeting by German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Haradinaj after the meeting had said Kosovo is ready for a comprehensive and legally binding agreement for normalising relations with Serbia, which included mutual recognition on existing borders.
Kosovo marks 20th anniversary of liberation, Clinton, Albright and Clarke participate
June 12th, the Republic of Kosovo has marked its 20th anniversary. Various personalities from around the world have participated in this historic event. The special guests of this event have been the three Kosovo liberation protagonists -- former US President Bill Clinton, former State Secretary Madeleine Albright and former supreme commander of NATO forces Wesley Clark. In this case, in honour of the contribution of Secretary Albright, her bust has been discovered in Pristina.
Constitutionist proclaims unconstitutional team negotiator
June 27th, Kosovo's negotiating team for talks with Serbia has been declared unconstitutional by the Constitutional Court, following the request for interpretation of the Law for dialogue by the LDK and LV. Following the Constitutional Decision, this delegation has ceased its activity, part of which were not alone LDK and LV. Co-chairman of the negotiating team has been Shpend Ahmeti and Fatmir Limaj.
Albania Holds Local Elections Without Opposition
June 30th in Albania, local elections have been held, even though President Ilir Meta had postponed them for 13 October. In 61 municipalities citizens have voted for their mayors, though these elections have been held without the main opposition parties in the country. In 31 of 61 municipalities, the Socialist Party has competed without any counterCandids, while in the other 30 others have run independent candidates or candidates from small parties.
American Embassy building inaugurated in Pristina
July 4th in Pristina has inaugurated the US Embassy building that has also marked the central manifestation in Kosovo on the 243th anniversary of America's independence. Congresswoman Eliot Engel and representatives of Kosovo institutions attended the inauguration ceremony.
Three Public Colleges Repressed
July 16th, the State Council of Quality has withdrawn accreditation for three public universities, boosting the response of these institutions, but also the Government of Kosovo. This council has removed their accreditation for the academic year 2019/20 to the University “Uqin Hoti” in Prizren, “Isa Boletin” in Mitrovica and “Haxhi Zeka” in Pec.
Haradinaj resigns prime minister's position, issue of invitation from Special
July 19th, Ramush Haradinaj has resigned from the position of Kosovo prime minister. His resignation has come after the special court's invitation to interview him in connection with his KLA activity. He has said he has made this decision by not wanting to cross “” Kosovo, interviewing in the prime minister's post. His interview at The Hague has taken place 24 July.
Isa Mustafa retakes “tion” LDK
August 3rd, Isa Mustafa has been re-elected chairman of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), receiving the majority of votes from 354 delegates in the party. Mustafa's vote was made by an open vote, as Fatmir Sejdiu had failed to win enough votes to enter the voting procedure.
Kosovo Assembly Spreaded
August 22nd, with 89 votes for, 1 against and 2 abstentions Kosovo Assembly MPs have voted for the distribution of the sixth legislature, leading the country to early parliamentary elections. The MP's decision to distribute the Parliament has followed Ramush Haradinaj's resignation from the prime minister's position, following the Special Court's invitation.
President Decides October 6th Parliamentary Elections Hold
August 26th, following Ramush Haradinaj's resignation from the prime minister's post and after consulting with political parties, President Hashim Thaci has made a decision that early parliamentary elections be held on 6 October. Thaci has made that decision based on legal and constitutional competencies.
Thaci meets with Trump, Macron, and the emperor of Japan
September 25th, Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, in New York has met with US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melanie Trump. Also, Thaci met with France's president, Emmanuel Macron, on September 11th. During 2019, specifically on October 22, Thaci attended the funeral ceremony of Emperor Naruhio in Japan. In Japan, Thaci has also met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Grenelli, Kosovo dialogue envoy Serbia
October 4th, US President Donald Trump has chosen US Ambassador to Germany Richard Green, sent to his administration in dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia. Grenelli will lead the US's efforts to help Kosovo and Serbia reach an official peace agreement, which could result in Serbia's recognition of Kosovo. Grenelli, after taking that position, has visited Kosovo and Serbia. Apart from Grenelli, Matthew Palmer will also handle the Kosovo dialogue Serbia. He is currently conducting the post of US Special Representative for the Balkans.
Vetevendosje wins the election, PDK opposition
October 6th, the Republic of Kosovo has held early parliamentary elections. The Vetevendosje Movement, followed by the LDK and the PDK, has emerged in these winning elections. LV has won 26.27 per cent of the vote, or 29 deputies, LDK 24.54 per cent or 28 deputies, PDK 21.23 per cent or 24 deputies, AAK-PSD coalition 11.51 or 13 deputies, Serbian List 6.40 per cent or 10 MPs, Coalition Initiative - AKR-PD 5.002 per cent or 6 deputies and other non-Serb minorities 10 MPs. The surprise of these elections has been the PSD, which has failed to secure any seats in the Kosovo Assembly, even though it has competed on an election list with the AAK.
Kurti, Osmani, Veselin and Haradinaj, most voted in October 6th elections
October 6th, LV leader and prime ministerial candidate Albin Kurti has been the most voted leader in the 6 October elections. He has managed to get 183 952 votes. After Kurti, LDK candidate for prime minister Vjosa Osmani, has managed to get 176 016 votes, followed by the leader The PDK and the candidate for prime minister, Kadri Wessel, with 145 881 votes. While AAK leader and candidate for prime minister from the AAK coalition- PSD, Ramush Haradinaj, has received 76 163 votes.
Kosovo withdraws Interpol membership application
October 15th, incumbent Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj has called for the withdrawal of Kosovo's application for membership in Interpol and the postponement of that requirement for next year. This requirement has been made following circumstances created in the country following Haradinaj's resignation. Kosovo had applied for admission to Interpol in January 2019 and was accepted by the Interpol Executive Committee.
Swiss experts publish Astrit Deharin report
October 24th, the Constitutional Prosecutor in Prizren has accepted expertise from Switzerland for the death of activist Astrit Dehari, in which a new “investigation is said to be needed to clarify the circumstances of Astrit Deharit”'s death.
Maxhu leaves AKI, Gashi comes
November 6th, Shpend Maximus has resigned from the position of AKI director. For this resignation, Maxhu has informed incumbent Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj. Following Maxhuni's resignation, Haradinaj and Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, on November 25th, have appointed Kreshnik Gashi as AKI director and Burim Ramadani general inspector in the agency.
Wessel, many KLA superiors invited by Special Court
November 7 - The Leader of The PDK, Kadri Wessel, has received an invitation from the Special Court for Interview, but has not suggested what quality. His interview was meant to be held on December 4th, but was postponed on December 10th. Invited by the Special Court during 2019 has also accepted top KLA superiors, including: Azem Syla, Sokol Bashata, Jakup Krasniqi, Rexhep Selimin, Bislim Officepin, Naim Malokun, Lulzim Kabashi, Smajl Latifin, Faton Mehmetajn, Isni Kiljan, Zafir Berisha etc.
Kosovo, among the last states on PISA test

Ahmeti quits, PSD leads Moliqaj
December 15th, Bev Ahmeti has resigned from the position of Social Democrat Party leader (PSD) after the disappointing outcome in the October 6th early parliamentary elections. Following Ahmeti's resignation, Dardan Moliqaj has been elected the new PSD chairman. Also, the PSD's leading structures have left Visar Ymeri, Dukagjin Gorani, Dardan Sejdiu, Albanian Pantina, etc.
Rates for ministerial hold without Kosovo
December 21st -- high state representatives of the four Balkan countries -- from Albania, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Serbia -- have held three summits in connection with the establishment of the so-called Balkan minister. The first summit is held 10 October in Novi Sad, the second November 9th in Ohrid, the third on 21 December in Tirana. Kosovo has not participated in these three summits because of Serbia and Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq's stances in relation to the Recak massacre. These summits, especially Tirana's, have sparked numerous reactions, especially in Kosovo. Reactions have come as criticism of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
Ali Ahmeti re-elected DUI chairman
December 21st, Democratic Union for Integration's Fourth Election Congress has re-elected Ali Ahmeti to the helm of this party for the next four years. Over 800 delegates have attended the work of this convention. In addition to Ahmeti, delegates from this convention have chosen members of the new party bodies. Representatives of all Albanian trains and more widely attended this convention.
Kosovo Assembly, Konjufca Chief Parliamentary Constitus
December 26th, the Kosovo Assembly, released from the 6th elections, has been dedicated. At the constitutional session, MPs have been sworn in, the Speaker of the Parliament and Vice Presidents has been elected. Glauk Konjufca has been elected chairman of the Parliament, while Arberie Nagavci, Mejtim Shala, Memli Krasniqi, Slavko Symouqi and Fabrim Damka have been elected deputy chairman of this institution. The Assembly has been constitutionalised without an agreement between Vetevendosje and LDK, which, to form the government, have been negotiating since 6 October, when parliamentary elections have been held. /epokare/
