Photo Gianluca Kiodini, 41, visited this tribe in New Guinea, now part of Indonesia, despite rumours that they had eaten Michael Rockefeller in 1961, broadcast Kosova Prees.
Author Carl Hoffman believes that he has the closest picture of what happened to Rockefeller's heir, and he gave details in his book “Savage Harvey” reports The Dream.
Michael, the son of one of America's richest men at 23 years of age, got into trouble when his ship sank along the coast of Southwestern Guinea, which he explored in search of treasure.
He swam for ten miles [16 km] and finally returned to shore, one of the tribal members struck him with a spear. The son of then governor of New York Nelson Rockefeller was shot in the neck and killed on the spot.
Asmats have spent centuries hunting their enemies and taking their heads off.
Not only did they hunt for skulls but they also worshipped them. This practice was interrupted in the 1990 ' s.
Another reason Hoffman believes the tribe ate Rockefeller is because, if he was drowned, the rescue teams would find him. He also had fuel with him that was never found. Hoffman also stressed that sharks rarely attack people and that there has never been a case in the area.
After Michael's disappearance, the Rockefeller family went to New Guinea and searched for it for more than a week. Then President John Kennedy sent condolences to the family, providing support. On the ninth day, the family returned home, and the search was interrupted.
