Kosovo story: Serbs raped us in front of children

The woman has shown that they are like Albanian women have been raped for five days, after being captured captive by Serb forces in Kosovo.

Rape victim: It was March 27, 1999, when the Serbian police took us. We've been held captive for five days. There were many wives, men and children. There Serbs have spared nothing. They've committed all kinds of violence against us. We were raped in front of our children in front of our parents. No young women, no women, nor elderly ones were spared. We were raped and robbed, took everything.

Have you been sexually violated?

Rape victim: Yeah...

Serbian cops?

Rape victim:But Serbian police officers and those who were best-known had masks on their faces. We have known that they were our circle, adults in Kosovo, they were wearing masks.

Is that what happened over the course of five days?

Rape victim:Yes, it has.

Did it happen in front of the kids?

Rape victim:Yes, it has happened in front of children, in front of parents, and in front of men of women.

Then you got released?

Rape victim:Then we were released, but because someone told us to be released. We were actually taken to execute us all. They separated men from women. There 60 men disappeared and nothing is known of their fate, while we were deported to Albania. We were actually thinking that we were being taken to mass cemetery because we didn't know those streets, but when we saw the Albanian flag, we realized that we were going to Albania.

Then you crossed the border?

Rape victim:But then we crossed the border, and we were mistreated all the way.

Have you talked to someone from your family about what happened to you?

Rape victim: Yeah, I talked to my husband.

Has he supported you?

Rape victim: He was supporting me.

The husband wasn't with you when the Serbs took you?

Rape victim: No, he wasn't with me. He was a soldier, knew what had happened there after he had 3 brothers and his father there.

I believe you see the news, see what Vucic says even in Belgrade? They are denying that war crimes have occurred in Kosovo. They're denying Recak and others.

Rape victim: It's easy for him to say it in a chair. No one can deny that. The massacres have all seen, O The SEU and others, how do they deny them?

If you've suffered sexual violence yourself during the war, if only Vucius faced what would you say?

Rape victim: If I were in front of him, I don't know what to say, but maybe I'd cut off his head with a razor. . Even though it wasn't him himself but seeing him do all these manipulations, denying our rights... We have been in our country, we have not gone to Serbia, to violate their rights. What has been done in Kosovo in no war is done.

How did your life continue after that?

Rape victim: Too bad, after sexual violence, I became pregnant and had an abortion, and I had an abortion privately not in doctors. I risked my life with this, but thank God my husband supported me. Then I found an organization, and since 2002, I am a completely different person. Despite the circumstances, rumors of people, of the immediate circle.. I don't know what to say, it was really hard. But now I'm fine, although I've got some kind of trauma left, every time we look at the news, that nothing's going on, that criminals are still free... we feel bad.

You knew some of those who violated you?

Rape victim: Yeah, we did. A lot of people have. Men have also witnessed at The Hague, taking nothing into account. There were also missing men...

They haven't been found?

Rape victim: No, no one was found. It also tells of a girl who has disappeared. There were other locations, the mass grave was found near school with girls. Nothing was done. We've filed charges in the Elux and yet Elux our evidence has taken them to Serbia. We have expected Elex to support us while they support Serbs. These men have come to us, with large salaries and support Serbia.

War crimes and violence in particular are made to overcome man, but you've continued to live, you've found the strength to move on. You have a beautiful family that loves and respects you, regardless of what happened, that supported you with everything.

Rape victim: I've been supported by everything but I've suffered with health. I have diabetes, tension, but all too much for my family, grandchildren now fill my home.

So they didn't win you...

Rape victim: No, not me, but most Albanian women have not been able to win. Those acts were done to overcome the morale of Albanians, and in the face of that, it wants death. Now we're alive, we can testify. May the time come for those criminals to catch you, they are free, they are hiding in Montenegro, they have done business.

Do you have a message for women and girls who have experienced your painful experience?

Rape victim: I've got a lot of messages, don't hesitate to talk. We're Albanian, we're mothers, we're someone's sister daughters. Even family members should support them, if they haven't been able to protect them, then they should say thank you for their survival. It was a huge weakness at the time, there were men who left women and took away their children, that was a bigger crime. How can you take the children to a mother and throw them on the street? These men I have condemned. They don't know you can't protect yourself there. As you take the kids and throw them on the street, they know these women for those kids survived to protect them. These aren't men, they're weak. There were girls who were engaged and when they were raped by Serbs, abandoned by their fiancé, these are men and not men!
