The earthquake of a week ago in Albania destroyed Thumana, Durres and several other villages. As a result of Ricter's 6.4 - degree earthquake, 52 people have lost their lives, and thousands of families have lost a peak over their heads. This has caused a large number of them to take refuge in Kosovo.
The Kosovo government in co-operation with the Prizren municipality has opened the doors of the Innovation and Training Park, where about 500 people have been accommodated, and also at the “Jion Busuku” high school, in the sports hall, about 120 people have been placed.
According to data that Periscop has provided from the Prizren municipality, 30 percent of these people are under 18 years of age, and for the possibility of these children becoming part of Prizren schools, the municipality has called on school principals to accept all children who appear to be teaching.
Since the arrival of people affected by the quake began, the Municipal Education Directorate has appealed to all school principals to temporarily accept children at school to follow the lessons, and the same ones are also provided textbooks”, reportedly the response that Prizren's municipality has given Periscope.
But only three children from Albania have already started learning in a Prizren village.
“Respecting instructions from the DKA, on November 29th the following classes of 3 students at the Krajk village school, which have also been equipped with bags and textbooks”, the Prizren municipality said.
Unlike the Prizren municipality in Pristina, even though Pristina chairman Shpend Ahmeti has called for these children to be notified to start learning, yet no students have been submitted, even no record of how many children are in total.
We don't have data on how many kids they are, because we don't do the collection of these data. We are willing to accept all those children to send to schools and equip them with all that they need, because aid is being distributed by all of”, said Miranda Mullafazliu, spokesperson for the Pristina municipality.
By contrast, in the Innovation and Training Park, psycho-social service and child recreation are now being offered.
According to recent information published in the media, a significant number of incomes from Albania have already begun to return. Jalane Cachiu / PERISCOP
