Eight others have already been confirmed dead and 20 are in intensive care with severe burns.
About 10:00 local time, Police Deputy Commissioner John Tims said the operation was advanced and will continue for several more hours. Conditions on the island remain favourable, he said.
About 47 visitors from around the world were on the island when the volcano erupted.
